HARRISBURG – As part of the opening of the 203rd Session of the Pennsylvania General Assembly, Rep. Mike Jones (R-York Township) was sworn-in to begin his first term serving the 93rd Legislative District in the state House. The day’s proceedings also featured the formal re-election of Rep. Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) as speaker of the House, as well as consideration of rules that will govern the body for the 2019-20 term.
“It is an honor to be asked to represent the great residents of our communities,” said Jones. “As I take the oath of office to uphold the constitutions of the United States and Pennsylvania, I pledge to give my best effort to bring to this House chamber the issues that concern the people of the 93rd District.”
Jones, who grew up in Dallastown, worked for the York-based St. Onge Company since 1994, serving as president the last 12 years. This background gives him a unique perspective on the need to address much-needed reforms and regulations that hinder Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
“As someone with a strong background in business, I want to aid in creating jobs throughout the Commonwealth while respecting our taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars through increased fiscal responsibility,” Jones added.
“Pennsylvania has some of the most restrictive and punitive regulations in place for both small and large businesses. Loosening the reins and allowing our business leaders to do what they do and know best is the only way we are going to reach our potential.”
Jones’ list of legislative priorities includes a return to citizen-focused government, property tax reform, and job creation. Additionally, he is focused on promoting vocational education and addressing the opioid crisis.
