HARRISBURG – Rare is the day state Rep. Mike Jones (R-York Township) doesn’t hear from a constituent about the burden of school property taxes.

“When I took office, it didn’t take long to find colleagues in neighboring counties and regions like the Lehigh Valley who were saying the same thing,” Jones said. “We’re all in search of a solution, but also feel the need to explain why this problem is so difficult to address.”

With those goals in mind, Jones is hosting a property tax town hall meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 6-8 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E. Main St., Dallastown. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and light refreshments will be served.

“I’m often asked why we simply can’t get rid of school property taxes,” added Jones. “At the meeting, we’re going to take some time to spell out the issue and explain the challenges associated with it, and then offer an alternative to the situation. That’s where Frank Ryan comes in.”

Ryan, a state representative from Lebanon County, is a retired Marine colonel who served with Multi-National Force-Iraq. He is also a published certified public accountant who specializes in corporate restructuring and knows what it takes to solve financial dilemmas.

“No one wants to attend a meeting like this and only hear why the property tax issue is hard to fix,” said Jones. “Frank has spent an incredible amount of time not only researching and putting together a legislative answer (House Bill 13) but also examining what will happen if we don’t find a solution. His legislation is well thought out and covers all the necessary bases.”

Anyone planning to attend the town hall meeting should call Jones’ district office at 717-428-9889 or email Mpinkerton@pahousegop.com.
