York County House Republicans Advocate to Save Women’s Sports
July 8, 2025
HARRISBURG— Members of the York County Republican Delegation to the House of Representatives signaled their support for Senate Bill 9, the Save Women’s Sports Act, following the signing of a discharge resolution that aims to bring the bill to the full House for a vote. The delegation consists of Reps. Seth Grove (R-Dover), Kate Klunk (R-Hanover), Mike Jones (R-York Township), Joe D’Orsie (R-Manchester), Wendy Fink (R-Red Lion) and Marc Anderson (R-Dillsburg).
Under Senate Bill 9, school athletic teams designated for female students would be closed to biological males, prohibiting men from competing with women.
While the measure has stalled in the Democrat-controlled House, it passed the state Senate with bipartisan support in May. If adopted by a majority vote in the House, the discharge resolution (House Resolution 281) would require Senate Bill 9 to be brought up for consideration by the full House.
The York County Republican Delegation members issued the following statement:
“Protecting equal opportunities for female athletes is worth fighting for; and as a legislature, we are obligated to protect them from discrimination, potential abuse and physical harm. Allowing biological males to compete on women’s teams puts female athletes at an unfair disadvantage, jeopardizes their safety, and creates barriers to potentially life-changing opportunities, like college scholarships.
“We are proud to support House Resolution 281, which may leverage a vote on Senate Bill 9, to protect female athletes and fulfill the legal requirements stipulated by Title IX, which was designed to end discrimination and create equal athletic opportunities for women.
“The delegation is energized to approve this legislation. We urge our Democrat colleagues to stop using procedural maneuvers (as they did today by changing the bill’s committee referral) to further avoid a vote. Pennsylvania’s female athletes deserve protection under the law, and we are ready to assure that protection for current and future generations.”
